Camp Update Form 2020

  • June 11, 2020

Dear Chabad Camp Gan Israel Parents,

As you all know we have been doing our best to find every way possible to open camp in a safe and realistic way. In this letter you will find the most important factors that you must take into account as a you consider sending your child to our camp this summer.

We have spent countless hours consulting and reviewing the guidelines provided by the Center for Disease Control, Nassau County Department of Health and New York State, and formulated a plan we feel will provide a safe summer for your child.

Below is how camp 2020 will look at Chabad.Although it will look different this year, your child will receive the signature Gan Israel love, warmth and support that has always been there.

It is extremely important that parents submit the form at the end of this letter so we can make a final decision about opening camp for preschool age children.

PLEASE RESPOND BY Monday, JUNE 15 – 12:00 PM

    Safety Measures

    • At Chabad we believe in ‘Open door Policy’. This year we will not be allowed to have parents or visitors enter the building.
    • Equipment that is shared including the outdoor playground will be cleaned multiple times a day.
    • Staff will wear face masks when they are with campers or staff at any distance indoors and outdoors (when they cannot socially distance)
    • Group size will be limited to 10 campers.
    • Each bunk will interact only within their own group.
    • Weather is a big factor for camp this summer. We will notify parents as early as possible if the forecast is showing a Wash Out Rain Day, which might require virtual camp or a shorter camp day.
    • Activities and specialties will be formed with social distancing regulations in mind.

    Medical Safety plan:

    • Medical forms must be submitted before the start date of camp.
    • Staff and campers will have temperature checks at the start and throughout the day.
    • Camper’s guardians must complete a daily form attesting their children are feeling well, have a temperature under 100.0 without having taken any prescription or over the counter medications, and have not been exposed to Covid - 19 within the last 14 days.
    • Campers or staff members that are sent home sick for any reason must have a physician’s note to return to camp.
    • If a staff or camper has a member of their family with a positive Covid - 19 test, they will not be allowed back to camp until the state guidelines of quarantine have been met.
    • If a camper has a Covid - 19 positive result, the parents must inform the camp immediately. That childs bunk, including staff, will not be able to return to camp for 14 days from the beginning of symptoms.  Siblings of the infected camper will be required to be out of camp for the same 14 day period.
    • We hope and pray that everyone stays healthy, but if we are required to close camp before the end of the season, we will refund a small percentage of the balance per week that camp will not be in session.
    • The refund is only applicable if the entire camp needs to close, not if a bunk or individual camper is required to miss camp.
