A Word from the Rabbi

You may have noticed this week a beautiful new addition to our Shul - a magnificent Aron Kodesh! I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful family (who wish to remain anonymous) who saw the need for the Torah scrolls to be set up in a more respectable fashion and have therefore undertaken the purchase of the new Aron Kodesh, with a matching Chazan pulpit. May Hashem repay them with all of the brochot materially and spiritually!

Best wishes for a Shabbat Shalom & Shana Tova,
Rabbi Zalman Wolowik

Happening @ Chabad This Week

The Kiddush at Chabad this week is sponsored by Dr. Mel & Ethel Cwiebeker in honor of the wedding of their son. Please join us for services at 9:20 am, followed by the Kiddush. If you'd like to sponsor a future Kiddush at the Chabad Center, please contact Dr. Muller: 516-569-0169.

This Shabbat is Birthday Shabbat! Is your child celebrating his / her Jewish birthday in the month of Tishrei? We'll throw the party in a most meaningful way, celebrating the birthdays of all children born during this coming month. Each child will be given the opportunity to announce his/her resolution of a good deed for the upcoming year. All children are welcome to participate! For further information on birthday shabbat, please contact Rabbi Meir or click here to verify your child's Jewish Birthday.

Farbrengens create a warm and vibrant sense of community and are an enjoyable and effective way to communicate Chassidic ideas and ideals. Chabad will be hosting a farbrengen for men on Sunday, October 2nd, in honor of 29 Elul, celebrating the birthday of the Tzemach Tzedek, third Chabad Rebbe. All men are welcome to participate!

Our 5th annual cruise was yet again a magical, spectacular evening! The tri-level Nautical Princess was strategically set to host an elaborate shmorg of delicious delicacies on the first floor, the beautiful Chinese auction and entertainer one level up, and to top it all off, a delightful sushi bar was open to all on floor #3. Magician and mentalist Dave Levitan threw some humor and intrigue into the mix as participants mingled indoors and out. As expected, the spectacular sunset view provided the perfect backdrop for the remarkable night. Photos are available on our website - click here.

The Parshah In a Nutshell
Parshat Nitzavim

The Parshah of Nitzavim includes some of the most fundamental principles of the Jewish faith:

The unity of Israel: "You stand today, all of you, before the L-rd your G‑d: your heads, your tribes, your elders, your officers, and every Israelite man; your young ones, your wives, the stranger in your gate; from your wood hewer to your water drawer."

The future redemption: Moses warns of the exile and desolation of the Land that will result if Israel abandons G‑d's laws, but then he prophesies that, in the end, "You will return to the L-rd your G‑d... If your outcasts shall be at the ends of the heavens, from there will the L-rd your G‑d gather you... and bring you into the Land which your fathers have possessed."

The practicality of Torah: "For the Mitzvah which I command you this day, it is not beyond you nor is it remote from you. It is not in heaven... It is not across the sea.... Rather, it is very close to you, in your mouth, in your heart, that you may do it."

Freedom of choice: "I have set before you life and goodness, and death and evil; in that I command you this day to love G‑d, to walk in His ways and to keep His commandments... Life and death I have set before you, blessing and curse. And you shall choose life."

Daily Thought: BELIEF

(From a letter:)

You write to me you are concerned that you don't believe. If you don't believe, then why does not believing concern you?
