A Word From the Rabbi

Children's program

'm writing to you once again from Jerusalem at the conclusion of our incredible mission to Israel. All 50 participants enjoyed a beautiful farewell dinner at the Zisman residence, celebrating the Chanukas Habayis of their new home. The evening was inspirational and we're all rejuvenated, ready to come back and start a new year!

While we've been in Israel, our staff and volunteers have been hard at work preparing numerous mailings, so keep an eye on your mailbox for the following items: [1] Our partnership package featuring an all new, beautiful program guide [2] Holiday Guide [3] Children's holiday newsletter [4] Our monthly postcard featuring Chabad's upcoming events for September [5] The calendars are about to be mailed and you should receive it during the course of next week.

I'm pleased to share with you that our Partnership Drive is in full swing! I hope by now you received our package and I'm sure you were delighted to learn of our various partnership opportunities. Please take note that due to popular request last year, we've restructured our membership plans to include 2 seats with Family Partnership of $850, or family seats with Gold Parnership of $3,000. We're also offering 50% off Hebrew School tuition for partners/members! Please make every effort to respond in a timely manner, allowing us ample time to process your family's information and reserve your High Holiday seats. I look forward to receiving your response soon!

If you haven't received a copy, please e-mail or call us at 516-295-2478 and we'll send one out to you right away. You can also learn more about our partnership opportunities and download the form on our website, click here. Should you have any questions, comments, concerns or simply would like to share your thoughts, I'd be happy to discuss this with you - feel free to call me at 516-295-2478 upon my return from Israel on September 3 or email [email protected] .

Best wishes for a Shabbat Shalom & a Shana Tova!
Rabbi Zalman Wolowik

Daily Quote
The chassidim of Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi used to say: Our Rebbe revives the dead. What is a corpse? Something cold and unfeeling. Life is movement, warmth, excitement. Is their anything as frozen in self-absorption, as cold and unfeeling as the mind? And when the cold mind understands, comprehends, and is excited by a G‑dly idea - is this not a revival of the dead?

Daily Thought
All of You

the parshah in a nutshell
Parshat Ki Tavo

Moses instructs the people of Israel: When you enter the land that G‑d is giving to you as your eternal heritage, and you settle it and cultivate it, bring the first-ripened fruits (bikkurim) of your orchard to the Holy Temple, and declare your gratitude for all that G‑d has done for you.

Our Parshah also includes the laws of the tithes given to the Levites and to the poor, and detailed instructions on how to proclaim the blessings and the curses on Mount Grizzim and Mount Ebal — as discussed in the beginning of the Parshah of Re'ei. Moses reminds the people that they are G‑d's chosen people, and that they, in turn, have chosen G‑d

The latter part of Ki Tavo consists of the Tochachah ("Rebuke"). After listing the blessings with which G‑d will reward the people when they follow the laws of the Torah, Moses gives a long, harsh account of the bad things — illness, famine, poverty and exile — that shall befall them if they abandon G‑d's commandments.

Moses concludes by telling the people that only today, forty years after their birth as a people, have they attained "a heart to know, eyes to see, and ears to hear."
