Happening at Chabad This Week

Meet a modern-day 'Queen Esther' as Mrs. Miriam Armond tells her story tonight, March 10, at the women's Rosh Chodesh Farbrengen. The gathering will be hosted by Mrs. Sandy Gordon at her home, 58 Margaret Avenue in Lawrence at 8:15 pm (note change of location). Allow yourself the opportunity to be uplifted - celebrate Rosh Chodesh Adar II in a truly joyous and meaningful fashion. This event is co-sponsored by Dr. Binyomin and Leah Muller l'zechus Gedaliah Ephraim ben Fraida Rivka.

The 2-part Megillat Esther series which began this past Monday was insightful and meaningful, offering a whole new perspective on the story of Purim. The women's series will continue Monday, March 14th, 8:15 pm at Chabad for Part II with noted educator, Mrs. Goldie Gansbourg. The events & story of Purim are a font of wisdom and guidance, replete with insights into the deeper meaning of life and lessons in how it should be lived - join us!

Just 3 days left to take advantage of this great opportunity!! Our Mishloach Manot Campaign is in full swing with the anticipated participation of over 100 families in the community. Each participating family will receive a magnificent package filled with tempting treats along with a list of all families who took part in this project. Therefore, you will not need to send individual Shalach Manot to those families who participate. You can be included and purchase these packages by sending a check, payable to Chabad of the Five Towns, by March 13th or submit your purchase online. Baskets are to be picked up at Chabad, on the night of Purim or the Sunday evening preceding, March 20, 7:00 - 9:00 pm. We are asking everyone to participate, as it will benefit us all by alleviating any "pre-purim jitters."

Move over Spiderman, move over Sponge Bob! Here come Mordechai and Esther, here comes "Virtual Purim!" The 2,300 year-old royal Jewish heroes come to life in Chabad of the Five Towns jam-packed Purim megasite.

The site's crown jewel is its all-new online Purim Costume Contest. Anyone, child or adult, can enter here and follow the easy instructions at .

In addition, in an enjoyable display of global unity, voting is worldwide and entirely democratic, as site visitors can rate their favorite costumes. Highest rated contestants will win an array of prizes posted on the site.

In other areas of the site, students young and old can try their hand at games and rhyming characters will readily recount the Purim miracle for kids! Children of all ages will enjoy everything from games to recipes to Prayers to stories on "Virtual Purim." The site gives detailed instructions on how to celebrate, give, say, pray, listen, watch, learn and eat on the holiday, plus actual meal menu suggestions, traditional holiday recipes and lots of fun and games.

Lest one think that Virtual Purim is all play and fun, the Study area serves enough in-depth learning to keep a team of scholars occupied for weeks. Hundreds of pages of essays and insights, divided by category and learning level, afford beginner and scholar a smorgasbord of Purim food for thought.

Kids and their parents can also enjoy hours of fun in the Multimedia section! The vast resources packed into this megasite that drive home the real story of Mordechai and Esther, and the lessons it holds for today's entire family, both young and old, well-informed and uninitiated, 2,360 years later.

Youth News & Shmooze

Hebrew School

While the Hebrew school children are enthusiasticaly competing in their "General Jewish Knowledge" competition, they are also hard at work raising funds in perhaps the most educational way, a Book-a-thon. On a global campgain for Jewish literacy, Kehot bookstore/publishing house has organized a book-a-thon where the children are seeking sponsors for each book that they read. The funds will be directly contributed to expanding Chabad's children's library. Be a part of the action: contact Morah Irit at 516-295-2479

Sixty Days of Purim
Purim, as everyone knows, falls in the month of Adar. Actually, according to the Kabbalists, it's the other way around: Adar rises in Purim...

Story
The Break-In
The prayer quorum the rebbe had assembled included ruffians, burglars and other types of people of ill repute...

Question
How Do We Know Whom To Believe?
When we find a teacher inspiring and compelling, when we are enthused by people who seem spiritual and pious, how can we be sure that they are not charismatic charlatans preying on our vulnerability for their own selfish gain?

Living
On Being a Mentch
Consciously or sub-consciously, we all identify as "human." Does that inspire us to strive higher, to be a mentsch? Or does it allow us to relax our standards, recognizing that we're "only human"?

The Parshah In a Nutshell
Parshat Pekudei

Moses makes an accounting of the gold, silver and copper donated by the people for the making of the Mishkan. Betzalel, Ahaliav and their assistants make the Eight Priestly Garments — the Apron, Breastplate, Cloak, Crown, Hat, Tunic, Sash and Breeches — according to the specifications communicated to Moses in the Parshah of Tetzaveh.

The Mishkan is completed and all its components are brought to Moses, who erects it and anoints it with the holy Anointing Oil, and initiates Aaron and his four sons into the priesthood. A cloud appears over the Mishkan, signifying the Divine Presence that has come to dwell within it.

Daily Thought: Self-Destruction

Depression is not a crime. But it plummets a person into an abyss deeper than any crime could reach. Depression is a ploy instigated by the self-destructive elements within all of us. Once depressed, a person could do anything.

Fight depression as a blood sworn enemy. Run from it as you would run from death itself.
