and the winner is...

MENDEL WOLOWIK!!

THE CHIDON, ANNUAL SEFER HAMITZVOS COMPETITION

This past weekend, 150 students from schools across the globe competed in the Annual Sefer Hamitzvos Competition. This competition is the response to the Lubavitcher Rebbe OBM’s request to unite Jews through the study of the 613 Mitzvos of the Torah, Sefer Hamitzvos. The Lubavitcher Rebbe OBM repeatedly emphasized that this effort will hasten the coming of the righteous Moshiach.

Heeding the call, over 4,000 students from 96 schools worldwide have studied the Rambam's Sefer Hamitzvos in a structured, goal-oriented fashion. The thousands of students competed for the 150 spots at the annual gala chidden, reserved for those who participated and excelled in a series of preliminary tests.

Rabbi Shneur Z. Wolowik, director of the Jean Fischman Chabad Center of the Five Towns, couldn’t be prouder when his son, Mendel Wolowik, age 12, of Woodmere NY was among the 150 finalists who earned a place in the International Championships, held this past Sunday, March 18 in Brooklyn.

It came as little surprise and tremendous joy and nachas to his parents and teachers, when Mendel was awarded winner of the competition!! He came in 3rd place and winners received gifts of seforim to further their studies and knowledge.

Engaged

The challenge is to keep the Cosmic Mind engaged. He needs to see things that interest Him happening down here. Just an everyday world going about its everyday stuff gets dull after a while. On the other hand, angels singing His praises all day can also get rather tedious.

But an earthly being doing a G‑dly act — now that's something to wake up about.

The Parshah In a Nutshell
Parshat Vayikra

G‑d calls to Moses from the Tent of Meeting, and communicates to him the laws of the korbanot, the animal and meal offerings brought in the Sanctuary. These include:

The "ascending offering" (olah) that is wholly raised to G‑d by the fire atop the Altar;

Five varieties of "meal offering" (minchah) prepared with fine flour, olive oil and frankincense;

The "peace offering" (shelamim), whose meat was eaten by the one bringing the offering, after parts are burned on the Altar and parts are given to the Kohanim (priests);

The different types of "sin offering" (chatat) brought to atone for transgressions committed erroneously by the High Priest, the entire community, the king, or the ordinary Jew;

The "guilt offering" (asham) brought by one who has appropriated property of the Sanctuary, who is in doubt as to whether he transgressed a divine prohibition, or who has committed a "betrayal against G‑d" by swearing falsely to defraud a fellow man.
